Our admissions process is designed to help families, young people, local authorities and professionals decide whether Brighter Futures Specialist College is the right specialist further education placement.
We consider each learner carefully, looking at their aspirations, support needs, communication profile, independence goals and preparation for adulthood outcomes.
A structured journey for every learner — a broad first year, specialist study in Year 2, then real professional experience — all built around strengths, EHCP outcomes and aspirations.

A Broad Foundation Across Every Pathway
Year 1 is a general foundation year. Learners settle into their House, build confidence and routine, and sample every vocational pathway — Hospitality & Catering, Enterprise & Print, Horticulture, independent living and more — alongside functional skills, communication and real-world learning from their very first week.
Stage 2 · Year 2
Develop
Choose Two Courses To Specialise In
In Year 2, learners choose two courses to focus on — one major and one minor — deepening their chosen specialisms while employability, communication and independence keep growing. Many also begin mentoring newer learners in their House.
Stage 3 · Year 3
Transition
Professional Experience & Next Steps
Year 3 is all about the world of work. Learners take on internships and work experience where feasible, run enterprise projects, and complete transition planning — aligned to their EHCP preparing for adulthood outcomes and individual next steps.
